Gene-Environment Interaction in ASPD: Adoption Study Example
A notable adoption study illustrates the interplay between genetics and environment in ASPD. The study found that adoptees with biological parents who had antisocial personality disorder were significantly more likely to develop antisocial behaviors themselves, but only if they were raised in adverse adoptive family environments. Such environments included factors like marital problems, divorce, substance use, and legal issues among the adoptive parents.
