Genie's Language Acquisition

Following her removal from an abusive environment, Genie began acquiring language much later than predicted by critical period hypotheses. While she managed to amass an impressive vocabulary in a short time, she never developed a mastery of the grammatical aspects of language. Her case suggests that being deprived of the opportunity to learn language during a critical period may impede the ability to fully acquire and use language.
