International frameworks show that women with disabilities face many challenges. Worldwide, more women than men have disabilities, and many of them live in rural areas of low-income countries. This group experiences violence at much higher rates, often from people they rely on the most. Research shows that girls with intellectual disabilities are especially vulnerable to sexual violence. However, they have limited access to justice and support services, which keeps the cycle of abuse and neglect going.
