Glycosaminoglycans

Glycosaminoglycans are negatively charged polysaccharides that are composed of a repeating disaccharides subunit. They are involved in cell hydration, structure, and cell signaling. Glycosaminoglycans can be categorized by their repeating subunit:

  • heparin/heparan sulfate
  • chondroitin sulfate/dermatan sulfate
  • keratan sulfate
  • hyaluronic acid
