Medicaid is an insurance program jointly administered by the federal and state government. This insurance system is designed for low-income individuals and families to give them access to health care. Although this program is designed for low-income individuals there are other eligibility guidelines. The guidelines used to be a lot more strict before ACA was put into action in 2014.

Medicare is the counterpart to Medicaid in terms of government-funded insurance plans. Medicare is government assistance for the elderly and retired to obtain health care. However, as older people generally need more attention to their health they need to enroll in multiple plans because Medicare has large deductibles and can't take care of all their needs.

This node shows that Hispanics are the most underinsured population, and African Americans the second most. The Asian population and Caucasian populations have a much smaller rate of underinsurance.

This phenomenon occurs when people have insurance but they still don't see a medical provider because they can't afford that part of health care. Being underinsured is when the insurance covers so little that people with health difficulties still cannot afford to seak assistance.

An HMO is a type of insurance plan that's generally less expensive, with an HMO you need to have a primary care physician who is responsible for making referrals for further medical treatment.
