A unit/collection of people tied to each other such as organization, religion, social classes, kinship, and nationality. These people/units share memories amongst each other within their own group. If said memory is introduced outside of a group it becomes formalized information.

Archives are not just pages and books from the past, they are the enduring memory of people who lived in times before we did and they give context to the situations the archives are about. When discussing the types of memory archives foster there are three types:
- Individual
- Group
- Collective

How Archives foster Memory Citation

Ways or methods of personal remembrance such as diaries, records, orally, and photos. Can also be referred to when talking about memories passed down in a family is that is a personal memory. 

Individual Memory

Group Memory

A memory of a past event that does not have to be experienced. Rather the memory is constructed by a social framework. Examples include what people read, media, movies/documentaries, biographical accounts, imagery, and audio.
