Lower-achieving groups of students benefit the most from a growth mindset intervention. This is thought to be because they might be more likely to be going through trouble academically and would benefit from a mindset shift to surpass this. Additionally, a growth mindset intervention may not help students that were already high achieving since they can't go much higher than before.

Growth Mindset of Intelligence Intervention and Lower Achieving Groups

- Growth mindset of intelligence interventions were usually done in person, lasted weeks, and would require an instructor to administer them. This wasn't efficient when turning it into a national large-scale intervention.
- A cost-effective and scalable intervention was administered online and consisted of two 25 minute sessions that took place 1-4 weeks apart.
- The focus was the same as previous interventions. Fixed mindset was contradicted through online exercises. Growth mindset was explained in the first session while students were asked how to apply it in their lives as part of the second session.

Large Scale Growth Mindset of Intelligence Intervention

A growth mindset of intelligence intervention challenges the idea that intelligence is fixed and helps students see that intelligence comes from effort. Features of the intervention include giving students strategies to approach schoolwork and reassurance when asking for help.  This type of intervention has helped improve academic success for adolescents starting high school substantially.
