HeLa Cell Line
The HeLa cell line was the first continuous tissue-culture cell line, originally cultivated in 1951 from cervical cancer tumor cells of patient Henrietta Lacks. These cells are immortal, possessing the ability to live and grow indefinitely, and have served as a crucial technology for research in cell biology, virology (such as polio and AIDS research), and medicine.
