In clinical samples of SARS-CoV-2 patients, an abundance of the bacteria prevotella has been observed in the gut microbiomes of these patients.

Higher proportions of the bacteria Prevotelllaceae have been found in obese individuals who are at risk for Type II diabetes.

The highest mortality rates from SARS-CoV-2 are found  in the elderly and in people with certain comorbidities, such as diabetes. These groups tend to have less diverse gut microbiomes.
