Julie Avril Minich posits that if we look at alternative healing practices through a disability studies lens we could see how alternative spiritual-based healing practices would be a reaction to a classist and racist health-care system and that while there is undeniable ablism in some spiritual and alternative healing spaces that we have to look at different culturally based definitions of health and how these practices can be a means of circumventing traditional medical structures.
