Random counterbalancing is a technique used in within-subjects experiments when the number of experimental conditions is too large for complete counterbalancing or a Latin square design. In this approach, every possible order of conditions is generated, and then a specific sequence is randomly selected for each individual participant. While this method introduces more random error into the data, it remains a viable option when anticipated order effects are minimal and the sheer volume of conditions makes other methods unfeasible.
