Concept
Identifying the Different Student Groups
- Researchers pointed out that previous studies have generated inconclusive results, though they suggest that this is because many studies lack either a variety of disabilities studied or a comparison group.
- To remedy this in their own study, these researchers identified a wide range of disabilities (both reading-based and not) and included students in both general education and academically gifted categories for comparison.
- In this study, this information about disability or education group was obtained through records in the North Carolina School System. The data was obtained from the records of standardized test scores for students in North Carolina, which researchers tracked over the course of 4 years.
