Impact of Gig Economy and Insecure Employment on the Wage-Setting Curve

The emergence of insecure employment, such as in the gig economy, has lowered the reservation wage for many workers. A lower reservation wage, which represents a worker's next best alternative to their current job, contributes to a downward shift of the economy-wide wage-setting (WS) curve, as workers are willing to accept lower pay at any given level of employment.
