Impact of Racial Socialization Messages on In-Group Feelings

Research, such as a 2009 study by Neblett and colleagues, indicates that receiving racial socialization messages from caregivers has a direct effect on how ethnic minority youth perceive and feel about their own group. The study found that these messages were common and played a significant role in shaping in-group attitudes.
