While not all disabilities can fit neatly into one category, these categories generally encapsulate the types of disabilities through the Impairment Dimension.

Types of Disabilities

Also known as body dimension. This dimension measures the effect of a disability on one's physical body. This can include effect on a body's structure, such as loss of a limb, or a body's function, such as loss of memory.

Impairment Dimension

This dimension measures the effect of a disability on a person's daily life. Any task or action, such as riding a bike, taking a test, or having a conversation, that is effected by a person's disability would be viewed as an activity limitation. 

Activity Limitation Dimension

This dimension measures the effects a disability has on engaging in activities that involve other people. These would include effects on work, education, and personal relationships.
