Income’s role in access to healthy foods and its relation to disparate outcomes in the COVID-19 pandemic
During the pandemic, supplies of fresh foods, or food in general, may be in shortage for many people. For example, other customers’ overbuying and stocking up of food may have created more difficulty for low-income populations. In this case, it is especially difficult for low-income individuals to even have access to nutritious food, or just food in general. This results in a larger strain on low-income individuals to maintain a healthy diet. A low-income individual may have to make more trips to grocery stores, which puts them at a larger risk of contracting the virus.
