Industrial Organizational research done within specific fields of work, instead of in a broad area (i.e. Instead of surveying all employees 65+, survey all employees 65+ who work in finance, and are investment analysts).  


Contextual Research

The reduction in one's capability to complete work to the best of their ability. Job dissatisfaction, stress, anxiety, depression, along with self-esteem/efficacy issues lead to a decrease in work ability. Ill-health factors also play a role in decreasing work ability.


Decreasing Work Ability

Industrial-Organizational models that investigate factors that typically are affected by age. 
Instead of looking for issues that all employees 18+ may deal with, life span models would investigate age-specific troubles.


Lifespan Models

The increasing desire to retain older workers past legal retirement age due to two main factors:
- Increasing lifespans, resulting in heavier burdens on younger workers to support the retired workers
- A decreasing support ratio (working people per retired person)
