Individualism's Effect on Public Acceptance on Disability

Disability is often treated in the individual or private sphere. People with disabilities were often absent from public society, often living at home, hospitals or institutions. In the United States, laws preventing the display of disability on public streets were enacted in the 19th and 20th centuries. As a result, people with disabilities were excluded from the workforce and seen as deficient or separate from "normal" society.
