Case Study

Interpreting National Economic Health

An economic advisor is analyzing a country's progress over the last decade. They are presented with two key pieces of data: 1) The total value of the nation's property, stocks, and financial assets, minus all debts, has shown almost no growth. 2) During the same period, the average level of education has significantly increased, and public health initiatives have raised the average life expectancy. Based on these facts, analyze why a report focused solely on material assets would conclude the nation's wealth is stagnating, while a more comprehensive assessment might conclude the nation's wealth has actually grown.
