Not implementing Intersectionality of sex and gender within research creates data that is less accurate. This creates knowledge that is limited and lessens the potential to positively impact society. It neglects populations of people not eligible for studies with concrete labels, creating minority populations within research.

 Gender is a major determinant of health and life quality despite being a societal concept, while sex is more biological it still has societal expectations attached to it. Sex also includes specific health predispositions. Not including both sex and gender affects people's health because both of these factors are at play simultaneously in people's lives and health experiences.

Intersectionality of Sex and Gender Impacts on Healthcare

The characteristics of Gender and Sex interact simultaneously to shape people's experience. Limiting to just one promotes inequalities within transgender and intersex populations.
