Jasbir Puar's Extension of the Definition of Debilitation
Puar argues that debilitation is separate from disablement because of debilitation's particular emphasis on the slow wearing down populations by acts such as racial violence rather than putting focus on the event of becoming disabled. Puar uses debility to complicate the binary of ability and disability because debility particular notes that while some bodyminds may not be recognized or identified as disabled they may be debilitated. Puar also notes that individuals who are debilitated but not read by society as disabled may become more debilitated because of there lack of access to disability resources.
