Latent Growth Mixture Modeling to Study Psychological Adjustment to Climate Change Disasters

Using the Latent Growth Mixture Modeling approach (allows for observing differences in trajectories in sub-populations of a larger sample population) has had interesting results in two studies:

  • A study on Swedish tourists who were survivors of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami found 71% had low PTSD symptoms and fell within the resilient trajectory
  • A study on people exposed to the 2008 US Economic recession and Hurricane Sandy showed 83.6% had low depressive and PTSD symptoms and also fell on the resilient trajectory.
