Laws/policies impacting the health of the Black community

While the Civil Rights Act of 1964 led to decreased rates of Black infant mortality, many laws and policies are discriminatory towards members of the Black community. A salient example is disproportionate use of police force and excessive traffic stops, which lead to poor general and mental health among Blacks. In addition, police killings are linked to Black folks experiencing a higher frequency of poor mental health days. Finally, voter disenfranchisement is related to a higher rate of myocardial infarction among Blacks.
