Leverage (Gearing)

Leverage, also known as gearing, is a financial strategy that involves using borrowed funds to finance investments or the purchase of assets, a practice available to households, firms, and banks. The objective is to amplify the potential return on an investment. A common way to measure leverage is the leverage ratio, defined as the ratio of total debt to total assets.
