Limitations of Co-insurance Mechanisms

While co-insurance helps households manage income shocks, its effectiveness is often limited. Informal support from social networks like family and friends may not be substantial enough or last long enough to cover a major shock. Formal systems, such as government unemployment benefits, also have constraints, as their coverage is frequently incomplete within many societies, leaving many vulnerable.
