The rate of co-occurrence between social anxiety disorder and marijuana use disorder is one that is markedly important and requires research, due to the significant problems often associated with marijuana use. 
Health risks involved include: 
- Inhalation of smoke has been found to negatively impact respiratory functions & facilitate cellular changes that may increase risk of cancer
- Driving under the influence of marijuana is connected with greater accident risk
- Marijuana use is correlated to academic underachievement

Cannabis-Related Disorders are those in which the involvement of substances derived from the cannabis plant (and similar synthetic compounds), by an individual results in significant problems and impairment in behaviors, functioning, and/or overall health. This is particularly apparent, but not exclusive, to the component cannabinoid delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9-THC or THC).
