Long term supply chain Diversification
Academics have suggested that having some essentials be produced more regionally, rather than focusing all manufacturing in a handful of nations (namely China and Southeast Asian states) could be beneficial to steady long term growth and resilience to future upset. This would mean more resilience to disease, but also to cyber-security threats, environmental catastrophe, and geo-political upheaval. These trends can be linked to populism and anti-globalization sentiment from the far left and far right. However, this policy is gaining support from more moderate scholars and politicians, including France's moderate President, Emmanuel Macron.
