Characteristics of a Manic Episode
During a manic episode, an individual's mood can be euphoric and overly talkative, or irritable and hostile. They may speak loudly and rapidly, exhibiting a 'flight of ideas' by abruptly changing topics, and are often easily distracted. Other characteristics include grandiosity (an inflated sense of self-importance), a significantly reduced need for sleep, and a tendency to take on multiple tasks at once.
