What Services does Medicaid Provide for those with Disabilities?

The American Rescue Plan is increasing funds for Medicaid by $25 billion temporarily to states for home and community-based services to ensure that people with disabilities can get the care they need post-pandemic.

In 38 states, one or more Medicaid home providers closed permanently during the pandemic. This made it harder for those with disabilities to live independently because they could no longer access the services they needed to continue their lifestyles.

The bill that was proposed by the Senate in 2017 brought to light the importance of Medicaid for people with disabilities. This bill would reduce funds for Medicaid by 35% in the next twenty years.

Since Medicaid cuts would not effect federally mandated institutions such as nursing homes or hospitals, some "optional" services would need to be cut instead. These include people who help those with disabilities maintain their health by helping them eat, and go through their days. These attendants help approximately 3million Americans.
