Medical Illnesses and the Comorbidity of Major Depression and Anxiety Disorders
In primary care, patients with anxiety disorder or depression suffer from twice as much chronic physical illnesses as individuals without a psychological disorder. Some of the physical illnesses that people with depression are at higher risk of developing are myocardial infarction and stroke. On the other hand, people who suffer from chronic physical illnesses have a high chance of developing depression, anxiety disorders, or the comorbidity or both.
