Meningitis can arise from several different sources. It is commonly caused by infections from bacteria, fungi, or viruses, but it can also be triggered by non-infectious factors like an adverse reaction to medication or exposure to heavy metals.

Causes of Meningitis

Viral meningitis is an infection of the meninges caused by viruses. While meningitis can generally be a severe condition, people suffering from viral meningitis typically heal on their own without the need for extensive treatment, unlike bacterial or fungal forms of the disease.

Patients with this condition often experience symptoms such as severe headaches, a high fever, a stiff neck, and occasionally confusion or unusual drowsiness.
