In the middle of march 2020 measures against the spread of the coronavirus such as social distancing and quarantine were implemented in the Netherlands. There has been a general rise in mental distress in the US and UK beginning in April of 2020 in comparison to previous years. Furthermore, it is highly likely that the effects of the virus on mental health will differ across various populations, especially more vulnerable groups like those with preexisting mental illness. These groups of people may end up experiencing worsening or relapses of their mental illnesses. This led to the development of studies to assess the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on mental health all over the world. The focus of this study specifically is to determine the impact on the Netherlands.
