A technique used to measure the time involved in cognitive processes, in which participants are timed on their decision of whether two images are the same or not. Used in mental rotation experiments.

Mental chronometry

When an objects orientation is shifted, the more it is changed, the more time it takes for someone to recognize the object. This is due to the time it takes to  shift the mental representation of the object.
