Methods for Characteristics and Outcomes of Children With Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Infection Admitted to US and Canadian Pediatric Intensive Care Units
The researchers conducted a retrospective medical record review of pediatric patients admitted to 46 participating North American PICUs with confirmed COVID-19 infection between March 14 and April 3, 2020, and with outcome follow-up through April 10, 2020.
Patient data included:
- age
- sex
- preexisting comorbidities
- mode of presentation
Clinical course data included:
- presence/nature of organ failure
- maximum respiratory support
- adjunctive respiratory support
- additional organ support
Clinical outcomes at the time of data closure included:
- survival
- duration of ventilation
- lengths of ICU and hospital stay
