Schalk discusses how valuing micro and macro level change has been reflected in the metrics of success for activist work. In particular, there has been a push by contemporary Black disability cultural workers to create their own metrics of success and looking beyond just legal change as a way of remedying harms inflicted by various different systems.

Schalk notes that similar to the Black Panther Party and National Black Women's Health Project that contemporary Black disability cultural workers similarly look at both micro and macro levels of change and is clear in noting that even micro level change that changes the world for just one person is still hugely significant work.
