Below outlines the foundation and goals of the ATTEND model, which is provided for health care workers to relieve the negative effects of traumatic bereavement for the clients, improve psychological stress for providers, and help both parties understand all aspects of the ATTEND model.

The ATTEND model (which stands for attunement, trust, therapeutic touch, egalitarianism, nuance, and death education) is a mindfulness-based bereavement care model based upon the foundations of self-care and compassion. The model includes a three-part system in which it strives for the client and clinician to experience a symbiotic relationship in which the clinician works towards providing the best care for the patient while sharing a deep emotional connection with the client to understand their pain.
