Muraqaba (Contemplation) and Muhasaba (Self-Reckoning) in Jami's Haft Awrang (Section 31)
In Section 31 of Jami's Haft Awrang, the poet elaborates on the dual mystical practices of muraqaba (spiritual contemplation) and muhasaba (self-reckoning). Jami advises the spiritual wayfarer to meticulously monitor each breath, evaluating whether it is spent in a state of divine presence (huzur) or spiritual heedlessness (ghaflah). True muraqaba is achieved by entirely forgetting the created world (drawing the mark of oblivion upon all creatures) and maintaining a continuous, uninterrupted focus on the Creator. This vigilance protects the heart, which Jami describes as a nest carrying the divine falcon, from worldly corruption.
