Narrative Exposure Therapy Reducing PTSD Among Transgender Community
Transgender adolescents experience significantly more trauma than cisgender adolescents due to attacks, harassment, etc. There has been a push to develop interventions tailored to members of the transgender community to help them work through the trauma they face. A pilot study has discovered that the use of narrative exposure therapy(NET) could help reduce posttraumatic stress symptoms as well as increase well-being and resiliency among transgender people. More studies need to be done using NET to examine the effectiveness of the treatment fully. However, this pilot study supports the use of NET for the transgender community and warrants further study on this type of intervention.
