Need for Competence in Erikson's Theory

A central premise of Erikson's psychosocial theory is that individuals are fundamentally motivated by a need to achieve competence in specific areas of their lives. This motivation drives human development across the lifespan, as individuals strive to master the unique psychosocial task presented at each of the eight developmental stages.
