Neighborhood density and its relation to disparate outcomes in the COVID-19 pandemic
Social distancing has been a recommended public health guideline put in place to flatten the curve of COVID-19 and decrease the transmission of the virus. It may be especially difficult for those in crowded neighborhoods to social distance. Thus, those who reside in crowded neighborhoods, which includes many high-poverty neighborhoods, are at higher risk of being infected with the virus. This, in turn, puts these individuals at a higher risk of becoming ill with the virus and increases the virus’s rate of transmission.
