Neuronal Membrane Fluid Separation

The neuronal membrane serves a critical role in keeping a neuron's intracellular fluid (cytoplasm) separate from the surrounding extracellular fluid. This separation is essential for neural communication because the electrical signal that passes through the neuron depends on maintaining an electrical difference between these two fluids.
