Concept

Neuroticism and Cognitive Health

High neuroticism relates to higher risk of going from NCI to MCI, with hazard ratio (HR) of 1.12, and increased risk of dementia. Those with less neuroticism had longer periods of cognitive health, especially females. There is an association between neuroticism and cortisol. Cortisol can wear down hippocampus, which can add to poor cognitive outcomes.
