Nothingness as the Source of Joy and the Illusion of 'Everythingness' in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 8, Poem 14)

In Chapter 8, Poem 14 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the poet contrasts the spiritual state of nothingness (non-existence) with the illusion of 'everythingness' (material existence). Attar asserts that residing in nothingness is the true source of joy and spiritual subsistence (baqa), whereas attachment to being 'everything' brings pain, calamity, and is driven by selfish desire (hawa). The seeker is urged to transcend both attachment to the material world and the conceptualization of nothingness itself, realizing that all worldly forms are ultimately naught.
