Obesity and COVID-19 Severity in a Designated Hospital in Shenzhen, China
- This paper looks specifically at the obesity statistics of COVID-19 from The Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen in China
- It looks at the statistics of 383 patients admitted between 01/11/2020 to 03/26/2020
- More overweight and obese patients progressed to severe COVID-19 cases
- The most high-risk group seemed to be overweight or obese men with preexisting health conditions
- Because obesity provides a higher risk for other onset conditions, obesity can be seen as a risk factor to more severe COVID-19 cases
- Obese people tended to be more likely to contract upper respiratory tract infections
- Overweight or obese patients tended to start treatment later than those that were normal weight
