Omne Vivum ex Vivo

Following his definitive disproof of spontaneous generation, Louis Pasteur articulated the phrase 'Omne vivum ex vivo' (meaning 'Life only comes from life') during a 1864{}1864 lecture. By declaring that 'life is a germ and a germ is life,' he delivered a final, mortal blow to the doctrine of spontaneous generation.
