Short Answer

Optimal Time Allocation

A student is allocating their 24-hour day between studying for an exam and leisure. At their current allocation, the rate at which an additional hour of studying improves their grade (the marginal product of study) is 3 percentage points. However, to feel compensated for giving up that same hour of leisure, the student requires a grade improvement of 5 percentage points. Is the student's current allocation of time maximizing their overall satisfaction? Explain why or why not, and describe how they should reallocate their time to become better off.
