This is the idea that scholarships regarding Asian studies, which are produced in cultures that are tied to imperialism, will inherently be tied to imperialist ideas. These imperialist attitudes which stem from the "othering" of the external Asian culture will result in the characterization of the East as being unable to move towards "modernity" without the interference of the imperialist society.
