Origin on a Number Line

The origin is the point on a number line that is labeled 00. It serves as the reference point from which all other numbers are located — positive numbers extend to the right of the origin and negative numbers extend to the left. Because every distance on the number line is measured relative to this point, the origin is the natural dividing line between the positive and negative sides of the line.
