Outcomes of Uninvolved Parenting

Children raised in the uninvolved (or neglectful) parenting style often experience negative developmental and emotional consequences. They are typically emotionally withdrawn, anxious, and fearful. Furthermore, these children tend to perform poorly in school and have an increased risk of engaging in substance abuse (Darling, 1999).
