Paper Check Tradeoffs for a Remodeling Contractor

Paper checks usually have no payment-processing fee, but the contractor may not see usable cash for about 3 to 7 days because the check must travel by mail and then pass through bank processing. They can fit customers who still rely on traditional accounts-payable routines, especially on residential jobs. The main drawbacks are stop-payment risk, because the payer can cancel the check after sending it, and slower reconciliation, which delays the contractor’s view of incoming cash. In commercial work, many businesses now favor electronic payments because they confirm receipt faster and provide clearer remittance information.
